Testing Internet Call Notification

  1. Make sure that the icon is in the system tray.
  2. Use your modem to connect to the Internet.
  3. Use another telephone line to call the telephone number to which your modem is connected.

    A window notifies you of the incoming call. If you have caller ID Service on the modem line, caller information is also displayed.

  4. If the test fails, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

Using Internet Call Notification

To use Internet Call Notification, you need a V.92 connection to the Internet and call waiting service on your telephone line. You can use Internet Call Notification if you do not have caller ID service, but caller information will not be displayed.

Accepting a Call

Once you are notified that you have an incoming call, you have approximately 14 seconds to decide whether or not to take the call. A countdown is displayed.

If you are connecting to a server that supports V.92:

  1. A message appears informing you of an incoming call.
  2. Click Accept to take the call, or Ignore to drop the call.

    Note: If you pick up your handset before clicking Accept, your line will not switch to the incoming call.

  3. A connection is established with the call.

  4. When the message "You can take your second call" appears, you have 4 seconds to pick up your handset before the call is dropped.

    Note: If you pick up your phone too late, the incoming call will be dropped.

If you are connecting to a server that does not support V.92:

  1. A message appears informing you of an incoming call.
  2. Click Accept to take the call, or Ignore to drop the call.

    When you accept the call, your data connection is terminated.

    Note: If you pick up your handset before clicking Accept, your line will not switch to the incoming call.

  3. A connection is established with the call.

  4. When the message "You can take your second call" appears, you have 4 seconds to pick up your handset before the call is dropped.

    Note: If you pick up your phone too late, the incoming call will be dropped.

Switching Back to Your Internet Connection

Your ISP will terminate your Internet connection if you have ended your call before the determined length of time. Internet Call Notification displays a countdown of the remaining time.

To return to your Internet connection:

  1. Click Back.

    Note: Be sure to click Back before hanging up your phone and while "Hang up your phone now!" is displayed; otherwise, your modem will not be able to switch back to the Internet.

  2. You have 4 seconds to hang up your handset before your Internet connection is dropped.

  3. A connection is established with your ISP.

    The ICN window closes and you are connected to the Internet.

To continue your phone conversation and drop your Internet connection:

  1. Click Drop.

    You receive a message that you have been disconnected from the Internet:

  2. Follow your regular dial-up routine to re-establish your Internet connection.

    Note: If you talk until the timeout is reached, the Internet connection is automatically dropped, and the following warning appears:
