Modem Setup

Message:

COM port not available

Possible Solution:

 

Computers with Databook controllers may give a false "COM port not Available" error message during installation. If you receive this message and are installing your 3Com Megahertz modem PC Card in a computer with a Databook controller, ignore the message.

The controller type should be located in your computer's manual. Some notebooks that have Databook controllers are:

Message:

Unable to Set Comm Port

Possible Solution:

 

Computers with Vadem controllers (see your computer's manual) may give a false "Unable to Set Comm Port" error message during installation. If you receive this message and are installing your Megahertz modem in a computer with a Vadem controller, ignore the message.

 

 

Message:

COM ports 1-4 supported, defaulting to COM2 (if available).

Possible Solutions:

An invalid /c switch was entered on the command line for the DOS Enabler. Re-enter the line with the correct /c value switch.

Using a text editor such as EDIT, change the /c switch to the COM port specified in the ENABLE.INI file.

 

Message:

Slots A to H supported, defaulting to Slot A.

Possible Solutions:

An invalid /s switch was entered on the command line for the DOS Enabler. Re-enter the line with the correct /s switch.

Using a text editor such as EDIT, change the number of PC Card slots specified in the ENABLE.INI file.

 

Message:

Slot X Is Not Supported

Possible Solutions:

An invalid /s switch was entered on the command line for the DOS Enabler. Re-enter the line with the correct /s value switch.

Using a text editor such as EDIT, change the value of number of slots in the ENABLE.INI file.

 

Message:

The Attribute Memory Address must be in the range of A000-EF00.

Possible Solutions:

An invalid /p switch was entered on the command line for the DOS Enabler. Re-enter the line with the correct /p switch.

Using a text editor such as EDIT, change the memory address value specified in the ENABLE.INI file.

 

Message:

The Attribute Memory Address must be divisible by 100h.

Possible Solutions:

An invalid /p switch was entered on the command line for the DOS Enabler. Re-enter the line with the correct /p switch.

Using a text editor such as EDIT, change the /p switch to the memory address value specified in the ENABLE.INI file.

 

Message:

Could not find a PC Card to install.

Possible Solution:

No PC Card is inserted in the slot. Insert a functioning modem PC Card.

 

 

Message:

Please select a valid delay in the range of 0-10000.

Possible Solution:

An invalid /d switch was entered on the command line for the DOS Enabler. Re-enter the line with the correct /d switch.

 

 

Message:

The flag XXX is not recognized.

Possible Solution:

An invalid switch was entered on the command line. Re-enter the line with the correct switch.

 

 

Message:

Unable to configure the modem!

Possible Solution:

The card cannot be configured. Run Enable again, selecting a different COM port, IRQ, or memory address (refer to your computer's manual for information on these settings).

 

 

Message:

Unrecognized card.

Possible Solution:

Enable does not recognize your PC Card as a modem. Run Enable again, selecting a different COM port, IRQ, or memory address (refer to your computer's manual for information on these settings).

 

 

Message:

Error: No modem IRQs are available for this card.

Possible Solution:

 

Check your computer's configuration. The modem IRQ defined cannot be used, or is being used by another PC Card.
