Installing from the CD
If you do not have a CD-ROM drive, you can create your own set of installation diskettes by using the CD-ROM and disk drives on another computer. Insert the Installation CD and choose the "Create Diskettes" option. Follow the prompts to create your own set of installation diskettes. You will need several blank diskettes when creating your own set.

Remove your modem from its plastic traveling case and insert it into the PC Card slot in your computer. Reboot.

After the reboot, go to your CD ROM Drive and launch setup.exe.

Follow the prompts as they appear.

Select Start>Settings>Control Panel>. Double-click Modems.

Select Do not detect my modem and click Next.

With the installation CD or disk in the slot, click Have disk.

Make sure the path to the CD or disk is correct and click OK.

Make sure 3CXM756 is the selected modem and click Next.

Select the COM port for the modem (this should be the highest COM port number available) and click Next.

Follow the remaining prompts to complete the installation.

NOTE: If you are prompted to insert disk 1 for another file and the system cannot find the file, click
Browse and locate file MDM3C756.INI. Highlight the file and click
Open. Click
OK when the next window appears.

Your computer will go through a brief installation process. Once this process completes, your modem is installed.
You must use a Communications Software package to send and receive data and faxes.
Installing from the Windows .INF-only Installation Disk

NOTE: Installing from the 3Com Installation Diskette sets up your modem hardware for your computer under Windows, but gives you no additional software. For a full diskette installation, use the Installation CD and select "Create Diskettes". Use a computer that has a working CD-ROM drive and a floppy disk drive.

If you do not have access to a CD-ROM drive, use the 3Com Megahertz Windows INF-only Installation Disk and follow these steps:

After your notebook has rebooted, select Start>Settings>Control Panel>. Double-click Modems.

Select Do not detect my modem and click Next.

With the installation CD or disk in the slot, click Have disk.

Make sure 3CXM756 is the selected modem and click Next.
