Note: Install the utility and driver software before connecting the adapter to your computer.

Step One: Install the Software

This Installation procedure may require the use of your original licensed copy of Windows. Please have your Windows CD available BEFORE proceeding with the installation.

  1. Insert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM.
  2. If prompted, select your language.
  3. Read the license agreement and click YES if you accept the terms.
  4. Click Installation.
  5. Accept the default installation directory by clicking Next or specify a different directory.
  6. When you are prompted to shut down your computer and insert the PCI card, click Finish.
  7. Close the usrsetup program in the toolbar.
  8. Remove the CD-ROM from your computer.

Step Two: Install the USRobotics Wireless PCI Adapter

Before touching the PCI adapter, touch a metal object to dissipate any static charge in your body. A static shock can damage the PCI adapter.

  1. Turn off your computer and unplug it.
  2. Open your computer’s case and remove the screw and metal filler bracket for an available PCI slot.
  3. If necessary, unscrew the antenna to remove it from the PCI adapter.
  4. Hold the PCI adapter by its edges. Do not touch the contacts on the connector. Insert the PCI adapter into the available PCI slot and press it firmly to seat it in the connector.
  5. If necessary, attach the antenna to the PCI adapter.
  6. Plug in your computer and turn it on.
  7. Windows 2000, ME, and 98SE users: skip ahead to Step 12.
  8. If the Found New Hardware Wizard asks to connect to the Windows update Web site to search for software, select No, not this time and click Next.
  9. With Install the Software Automatically selected, click Next.
  10. If a window appears warning that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing, click Continue Anyway. USRobotics has thoroughly tested the operation of the software with Windows XP to ensure its safe operation.

  11. Click Finish.
  12. Windows 2000 users: If a window appears warning that the software does not contain a digital signature, click YES. USRobotics has thoroughly tested the operation of the software with Windows 2000 to ensure its safe operation.

  13. Windows ME and 98SE users: when you are prompted to restart your computer, click YES.

The USRobotics Wireless PCI Manager is installed.

Step Three: Connect the USRobotics Wireless PCI Adapter to a Wireless Router

Use the USRobotics Wireless PCI Manager to configure the USRobotics Wireless PCI Adapter to connect to other wireless devices. By default, the PCI adapter is set to work with wireless network devices that are not using security.

  1. Click the Site Survey tab to display a list of the available wireless devices within the adapter’s signal range. Routers and access points that have security enabled and are using encryption are shown with an icon .

  2. Double click the wireless network device that you want to connect to. The PCI adapter will attempt to connect to the network using that device. If your network is not using wireless security, the PCI adapter will connect to the network. If your network is using wireless security, you will need to enter the authentication information required by the wireless router or access point.

    For more information about entering authentication information or setting up profiles, refer to “Configuration” in this User Guide.
  1. The Link Information page shows the status of the connection between the wireless network device and the PCI adapter.
    A picture like this indicates that the PCI adapter is connected to the wireless network device.
    A picture like this   indicates that the PCI adapter is not connected to the wireless network device.

The colour of the USRobotics Wireless PCI Manager icon in the system tray also indicates the state of your wireless connection.
