Site Survey

Click the Site Survey tab to display the wireless networks and devices detected by the Wireless PCI Adapter.

The site survey displays a list of wireless networks and devices that your Wireless PCI Adapter has detected. Double-click a network to connect to it. If you do not see the desired wireless network, click Scan to search the area again.

If the desired wireless network is not displayed when you perform a Site Survey, create a profile with the necessary connection information for the appropriate wireless network and then select the profile. Refer to the Profile section in this User Guide for more information about creating a profile.

The Network type column shows whether the wireless device is an individual computer or an infrastructure device. A computer icon indicates an Ad-Hoc network. A wireless device icon indicates an Infrastructure network. An icon like this indicates a connection between your computer and a network.

The Network Name column shows the network name (SSID) of each available wireless network that is broadcasting its SSID. If a network name is not listed, SSID Broadcast is disabled on the device. You need the network name and security information of a device that is not broadcasting its Network Name.

The Mode column shows the specific 802.11 protocol that is being used by the wireless device.

The Secure column uses a key icon to show that security is enabled on the wireless device. If security is enabled, the security settings of the Wireless PCI Adapter must match the settings on the wireless device.

The Signal column shows the strength of the radio signal from each wireless device.

The Channel column shows the channel that each wireless device is using. The Wireless PCI Adapter automatically uses the appropriate channel.

The MAC Address column shows the MAC address of each avail devicable wirelesse.

If you attempt to connect to a network that has security settings enabled, you will need to create a profile and supply the necessary information. Refer to your wireless router's or access point's documentation for instructions on how to locate the necessary security information. Some examples of security information you may need are the SSID, the Authentication Mode, and the Encryption Level.
