My Wireless MAXg Router is not responding after I performed a firmware
upgrade.
Possible Solution:
It is possible that the upgrade process did not complete before you attempted
to access the Web User Interface. Wait two minutes and
then try to access the Web User Interface.
Possible Solution:
Unplug and then plug back in the power supply of the Wireless MAXg Router.
This will reboot the Wireless MAXg Router. Wait for 30 seconds before
you attempt to access the Web User Interface of the Wireless MAXg Router.
Possible Solution:
Press in and hold the RESET button for between five and ten seconds. This will
reset the Wireless MAXg Router to the factory default settings. If you
applied any personal configuration settings, you will need to make the changes
again or restore your settings if you created a backup file.
Possible Solution:
Your firmware image may have been corrupted during the upgrade procedure.
Note: The computer that you use for this procedure must be attached to the router using a network cable.
Windows XP, 2000, and NT users, perform this procedure.
Windows Me, 98, and 95 users, perform this procedure
Windows XP, 2000, and NT users:
Perform the following steps to manually install the router's firmware.
- Open the Control Panel and double click Network Connections.
- Right-click the Local Area Connection of the network connection that connects the computer to the router and select Properties.
- On the General tab of Local Area Connection Properties, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
- Select Use the following IP address:
In this step you will specify an IP address for the NIC. This address must be on the same subnet as the router. If the IP address of the router is still the default 192.168.2.1, enter 192.168.2.100. If the IP address of the router has been changed, use the first three numbers (octets) from the router's address and change the fourth number to 100. Make sure that the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
Click OK. Click OK.
Note: The router's default IP address is 192.168.2.1. If the router's IP address was changed and you do not know what it is, you can reset it to 192.168.2.1 by pressing and holding the RESET button on the router for between five and ten seconds. If you reset the router, you may need to renew the IP address of your computer's NIC card.
- Click Windows Start and then click Run.
- In the Run dialog box:
Type cmd and click OK.
- Locate the folder that you downloaded the firmware file to. Type cd and then the path to the firmware file. The path should be in quotation marks and cd and the path should be separated with a space. If the firmware file is located in the folder C:\networking\usr5461, you would type
cd "C:\networking\usr5461"
and then press ENTER
- Type the following command (but DO NOT PRESS ENTER)
tftp -i 192.168.2.1 put 5461.usr
- Be ready to press ENTER for the command typed above. Unplug the power supply of the Wireless MAXg Router. Plug the power supply in and immediately press ENTER.
- You should now see a message in the command prompt stating the image was transferred. Wait at least 15 seconds for the upgrade to complete.
Note: If you see a "timeout" message, repeat step h. through step j. Be sure to press ENTER immediately after plugging the power supply in.
- Unplug and then plug back in the power supply of the Wireless MAXg Router to reboot it again.
You must now set IP addressing for the NIC back to "Obtain an IP address automatically."
- Open the Control Panel and double click Network Connections.
- Right-click the Local Area Connection of the NIC that connects the computer to the router and select Properties.
- On the General tab of Local Area Connection Properties, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
- Select Obtain an IP Address Automatically and click OK. Click OK.
Windows Me, 98, and 95 users:
Perform the following steps to manually install the router's firmware.
- On the desktop, right-click Network Places or Network Neighborhood and select Properties.
- On the Configuration tab, select the NIC that connects the computer to the router and click Properties.
- Select Use the following IP address:
In this step you will specify an IP address for the NIC. This address must be on the same subnet as the router. If the IP address of the router is still the default 192.168.2.1, enter 192.168.2.100.
