Installation

Step One: Prepare for installation

1. Uninstall all other modems that are installed on your computer. For instructions, refer to the documentation for your previous modem.
2. Unplug all telephone and power cords connected to your previous modems.
3. Shut down your computer and power it off.

Step Two: Install the Modem Hardware

Warning: To avoid the risk of electric shock, make sure your computer and all peripheral devices are turned off and unplugged.

1. Remove the computer’s case.
2. Remove the screw and metal filler bracket for an available PCI slot in your computer.
3. Hold the modem by its edges. Do not touch the contacts on the connector.
4. Rock the modem back and forth while pressing down firmly to seat it in the connector.
   
   
5. Secure the modem with the screw from the metal filler bracket.
6. Plug your computer in and turn it on.

Step Three: Connect the Modem to an Analogue Phone Line

Caution: Use an analogue phone line only. The modem will be damaged if you connect it to a digital phone line. Most office phones are wired through digital lines. If you do not know whether you phone line is analogue or digital, consult your telephone service provider or building facilities department.

1. Plug one end of the provided telephone cord into the jack on the back of the modem.
2. Plug the other end into an analogue telephone wall jack.
3. To continue to use your analogue telephone service with the , connect your telephone to the modem’s jack.
   
   

Step Four: Install the Modem Drivers

Complete the installation steps for your specific operating system:

• Windows Vista
• Windows XP
• Windows 2000
• Windows Me
• Windows 98
• Windows 95

Windows Vista

You must be logged in as an administrator in order to properly install the new modem.

1. When the Found New Hardware wizard appears, click Locate and install driver software (recommended). If prompted for permission, click Cotinue.
2. If prompted, click Don’t search online.
3. When prompted, insert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. If prompted by Windows Security, click Install.¹
5. Click Close to complete the installation.

Congratulations. You have successfully completed the installation procedure. Please register your at www.usr.com/productreg/.

You can now install any of the additional software on the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM, including optional software that complements your modem and provides full V.92 features.

Windows XP

You must be logged in as an administrator in order to properly install the new modem.

When you turn your computer on, Windows XP automatically detects the modem installs a generic driver.

1. When the Found New Hardware Wizard appears, select No, not this time and click Next.
2. Select Install the software automatically, click Next, and follow the on-screen instructions to install the generic modem driver.
3. Insert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM to install the USRobotics driver.

If the CD doesn't start automatically, click Windows Start > My Computer and double-click the CD drive.

4. If prompted, select your preferred language and accept the End User License Agreement.
5. Click Install Modem and follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver for the modem.
6. If you see a security message, click Continue anyway.¹
7. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Congratulations. You have successfully completed the installation procedure. Please register your at www.usr.com/productreg/.

You can now install any of the additional software on the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM, including optional software that complements your modem and provides full V.92 features.

Windows 2000

You must be logged in as an administrator in order to properly install the new modem.

1. When the Found New Hardware Wizard detects the modem, insert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
2. In the Found New Hardware Wizard, click Next.
3. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) and click Next.
4. Make sure that CD-ROM drives is selected and click Next.
5. Click Next. The driver will install.
   
6. If you see a security message, click Yes.¹
7. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Windows Me

1. When the Add New Hardware Wizard detects the modem, insert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Select Automatic search for a better driver (Recommended) and click Next. The driver will install.
3. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Windows 98

1. When the Add New Hardware Wizard detects the modem, insert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Click Next.
3. Select Search for best driver for your device (Recommended) and click Next.
4. Make sure that CD-ROM drive is selected and click Next.
5. Click Next. The driver will install.
6. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Windows 95

1. When the Update Device Driver Wizard or Add New Hardware Wizard detects the modem, insert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Click Next. The driver will install.
3. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Additional Software

• Instant Update automatically notifies you of any available updates for your modem's firmware.
• Internet Call Notification enables the V.92 feature “Modem On Hold” which suspends your Internet connection when the modem detects an inbound telephone call.²
• PhoneTools software lets you send and receive faxes and is included as an optional piece of software for your convenience.

To see the additional software tools for your modem, select Software on the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM.
