How can I use an external USRobotics modem with a Mac computer?

Controller based modems will technically work with any operating system including Mac operating systems (see below for a list of current external controller based modems). There are 3 things that need to be done to make this happen.

  1. Place dip switch 1 in the down position (it is also labeled as Data Terminal Ready, in the down position it should read Data Terminal Ready Override).
  2. The second thing you will need is a cable that will connect from the 25-pin female connection on the modem to the serial connection on your computer, known as a mini-din-8 connection or 8-pin-din (we do not sell these cables, however any computer store will have one).
  3. The last thing is to install any driver, software, or script that is required for the computer to recognize the device as a modem. You can use this script: usrara.hqx
