Release and Renew a Network Connection

Windows Vista

  1. Click Windows Start.
  2. In the Search box, type Command Prompt and press ENTER.
  3. In the resulting list, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
  4. Type ipconfig /release and press ENTER.
  5. Type ipconfig /renew and press ENTER.

    Your wireless adapter should acquire an IP address (such as 192.168.2.5) from the router.

  6. Type exit and press ENTER.

Windows XP and 2000

  1. Click Windows Start > Run.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type cmd and click OK.
  3. Type ipconfig /release and press ENTER.
  4. Type ipconfig /renew and press ENTER.

    Your wireless adapter should acquire an IP address (such as 192.168.2.5) from the router.

  5. Type exit and press ENTER.
