Troubleshooting

This procedure addresses a number of symptoms that you might experience with your modem:

  1. Verify the cables are connected correctly. This includes all cables connecting the telephone line, the modem, and your computer.
  2. If possible, test your modem with a different phone cord and/or wall jack.
  3. Verify that the modem was installed correctly.

If you still have trouble using the modem, follow the procedure below that best describes your symptom.

General Modem Issues

My computer is not recognizing the modem.

My communications software does not recognize the modem.

My computer installed the wrong modem.

My modem won't dial out or doesn't answer incoming calls.

My modem sounds like it's trying to connect to another modem but fails.

My modem is not achieving a 56K Internet connection.

 

Internet Call Notification (ICN)

I'm not being notified of incoming calls while online.

I cannot switch from the Internet to an incoming call. 

I do not have enough time to decide whether or not to take the incoming call once the pop-up window appears.

I cannot switch back to the Internet after taking an incoming call.

The ICN software keeps displaying "Unable to put Internet on hold!". 

ICN does not display the caller ID information.

ICN interrupts my Internet connection.
