22 Mbps Wireless PC Card, PCI Adapter, PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna), and Access Point User Guide

Troubleshooting

I accidentally clicked Cancel during the installation procedure for the 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card, PCI Adapter, PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna), or Access Point.
Possible Solution:

Remove and reinsert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Repeat the installation procedure of the software before you install any hardware.

The installation procedure did not begin when I inserted the Installation
CD-ROM.

Possible Solution:

Some programs may keep the autolaunch feature of the Installation CD-ROM from beginning. Close any open applications and reinsert the Installation CD-ROM.

The 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card, PCI Adapter, or PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna) cannot communicate with other computers linked via Ethernet in the Infrastructure configuration.
Possible Solution:

•Ensure that each computer in the wireless network is powered on.
•Ensure that each 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card, PCI Adapter, or PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna) is configured on the same operating radio channel. If the IDs are different, change each 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card, PCI Adapter, or PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna) within the LAN to the new radio channel.
•Ensure that each 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card, PCI Adapter, PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna) is configured with the same security options.
•Ensure that you can connect to the Wireless Access Point and that the BSSID shows the MAC address of the Wireless Access Point you want to communicate with.
•Ensure that you have a valid IP address for the network you are trying to connect to.
•Ensure TCP/IP is installed. Ensure you are a part of the same domain or workgroup. Ensure that you are automatically obtaining the IP address or that you have a correct IP address and subnet mask. Reset the Wireless Access Point and restart the computer that has a connectivity issue.
Ensure that you have some files available for sharing.
•If you are not using a USRobotics Wireless Access Point, ensure that you can connect to the Access Point and that the preamble mode is set to Long .

I received a message that my computer shares a name with another computer on the wireless network.
Possible Solution:
Each computer on the wireless network must have a different name. Refer to your computer ’s documentation to see how to change the name of your computer.

My computer does not recognize the 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card or PCI Adapter.

Laptop users, the 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card may not be fully inserted into the PC Card slot.
Desktop users, the 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card may not be fully inserted into the PCI Adapter. The PCI Adapter or PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna) may not be fully inserted into the PCI slot of your computer. You can also try installing the PCI Adapter or PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna) into a different PCI slot.

My computer does not recognize the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point after I changed the settings.

Possible Solution:
Ensure that the Access Point Configuration Utility is installed for your 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point and that the Configuration Utility is installed and functioning for your 22 Mbps Wireless PC Cards or PCI Adapters.

Possible Solution:
Ensure that you are contacting the correct 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point by verifying the MAC address.

Possible Solution:
Ensure that the correct password and encryption option are being used. If you changed the settings in the configuration of the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point, you must also change the settings of every 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card, PCI Adapter, or PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna) attached to this network. The settings of the 22 Mbps Wireless PC Cards or PCI Adapters must match the new settings of the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point. If you are still experiencing difficulties, reset all of your 22 Mbps Wireless Access Points and wireless network adapters to the default settings and try again.

I am unable to communicate with the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point.

Possible Solution:
Be sure that each Wireless PC Card, PCI Adapter, or PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna) that you want to connect to the wireless network is set to Infrastructure mode within the Configuration Utility. If your 22 Mbps Wireless PC Cards or PCI Adapters are not set to Infrastructure mode, they will not be able to communicate with the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point.

Possible Solution:
Your 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point may not be responding. Try resetting the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point to reactivate it. Press in and hold the RESET button. While holding in the RESET button, unplug the power adapter from the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point and then plug it back in. Continue to hold the RESET button for about five seconds to restore the factory default settings. When this is performed, the Wireless Activity LED will blink.

Possible Solution:
Be certain the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point has the correct IP address for your LAN. Check the listed IP address for the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point in the Configuration Utility.

I am unable to enter the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point Web Configurator.

Possible Solution:
Be certain that you are entering the correct user name (if there is one) and password. The password field is case-sensitive. There is no default user name or password.

Possible Solution:
Be certain the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point has the correct IP address for your LAN. Check the listed IP address for the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point in the Configuration Utility.

My 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point is not appearing in the list when I scan for it.

Possible Solution:
You may be on a computer that is physically too far away from the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point. Try moving closer to the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point and repeating the scan procedure. Check any physical connections between the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point and your modem, router, hub, LAN, or switch.

My computer is not acknowledging my 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point.

Possible Solution:
Be certain that the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point is plugged into a power source and is properly installed. Make sure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the Ethernet port on the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point and to the Ethernet port on your cable or DSL modem, router, hub, or bridge.

The 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point is not receiving any power.

Possible Solution:
Make sure the power supply of the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point is connected to the power jack on the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point and to a standard power outlet.

I received a message that my 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point or my computer shares an IP address with another computer on the wireless network.

Possible Solution:
Each computer and 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point on the wireless network must have a different IP address. Refer to your computer's documentation to see how to change the IP address on your computer.

I am unable to communicate with the Access Point.

Possible Solution:
Be sure that each PC Card, PCI Adapter, or PCI Adapter (with detachable antenna) that you want to connect to the wireless network is set to Infrastructure mode within the Configuration Utility. Infrastructure mode is used to add an Access Point to the wireless network configuration for extended range and increased number of computers that can join the network. 802.11b AdHoc mode is used for peer-to-peer network configurations. If your PC Cards or PCI Adapters are set to 802.11b AdHoc mode, they will not be able to communicate with the Access Point.

Possible Solution:
Your 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point may not be responding. Hold in the Reset button on the rear panel for five seconds to reset the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point to the default settings. Any configuration changes will need to be reapplied. If you are still unable to communicate, unplug the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point to clear all the information and then plug the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point back in.
