Windows Troubleshooting

My Setup Wizard can’t detect the Wireless USB Print Server.
Possible Solution:

Check the physical connections between the Wireless USB Print Server, the printer, your wireless or wired router, and your power adapters. Any loose connection could interfere with the detection of the Wireless USB Print Server.

Possible Solution:
Refer to the LED descriptions at the beginning of this guide and then check the LEDs on the Wireless USB Print Server to make sure you are receiving power and that there is not an error.

Possible Solution:
Restore the factory default settings of the Wireless USB Print Server and repeat the installation procedure. To restore the factory default settings, unplug the power supply of the Wireless USB Print Server, press and hold in the Diagnostic button, and plug the power supply back in. Continue to hold in the Diagnostic button for 10 seconds to restore the factory default settings.

At the end of the Setup Wizard, I receive a message that says “Network busy, or device not found”.
Possible Solution:

On the main menu of the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM, click Additional Installs and then click User. Follow the on-screen instructions to continue the installation procedure.

I am unable to add my printer in the Add Printer Wizard screen.
Possible Solution:

Your printer may not be compatible with the Wireless USB Print Server. Close all the print server setup screens and disconnect the printer from the Wireless USB Print Server. Install the printer on your computer according to the printer manufacturer’s instructions. When finished, reconnect the printer to the Wireless USB Print Server. Click Windows Start, Programs, Print Server, and then Print Driver Setup. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Printer Port Setup procedure to complete the installation.

I am unable to print a test page.
Possible Solution

Click Windows Start, Control Panel, and then Printers and Faxes (This may be slightly different depending on your operating system). Right-click the printer you just installed, select Properties, and then click the Ports tab. Make sure the USR5436 port is selected. If it is not, select it, click Apply, and then click OK. You should now be able to print a test page.

I am unable to print via a wireless connection or the Wireless Print Server is not connecting to my wireless network.
Possible Solution:

Make sure you have the SSID and security information that match the wireless router or access point in your network. If any of this information doesn’t match, you will not be able to connect to the wireless network.

Possible Solution:
Make sure your wireless router or access point is using only WEP or WPA-PSK with TKIP for security. These are the only two types of security that the Wireless USB Print Server supports.

I created a new wireless network and the Wireless USB Print Server is not connecting to it.
Possible Solution:

Insert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Click Setup Wizard and follow the on-screen instructions. When you get to the areas concerning wireless settings, enter the appropriate information for the new wireless network to which you want the print server connected.

I have installed my multi-function printer, but my fax and scanner capabilities do not work.
Possible Solution:

If you have a multi-function printer (printer/fax/scanner) connected to the Wireless USB Print Server, only the printer functionality will work.

I tried to install the software for Peer-to-Peer (PTP) printing, but received an error message and the installation was aborted.
Possible Solution:

If you have previously installed the Wireless USB Print Server software, you will need to uninstall it before you can install the Peer-to-Peer software. Click Windows Start, Programs, and then Print Server. Select Uninstall and then follow the on-screen instructions. When the uninstallation is complete, you will need to reboot your computer. You will then be able to install the Peer-to-Peer software.

Some printing jobs do not print correctly.
Possible Solution:
Make sure you have the correct driver for your printer installed on each computer on your network. Refer to the documentation for your printer to verify this information.

Possible Solution:
If you are using an older, low speed printer, you may need to change a configuration setting. Click Windows Start, Programs, and then Print Server. Select Bi-Admin Mangement Utility. Click the Configuration icon and then click the Port tab. Change the Handshake Signal to Busy & Ack and then click OK.

Possible Solution:
Your printer may be configured to start printing after the first page is spooled, which can cause printing problems in certain applications. You will need to change this setting.

Windows 9x, NT, and Me users: Click Windows Start, Control Panel, and then Printers. Select your printer and then click File, Properties, and then Details. Click the Spool Settings button, select Start printing after last page is spooled, and then click OK.

Windows 2000 users: Click Windows Start, Settings, and then Printers. Right-click your printer, click Properties, and then click the Advanced tab. Select Start printing after last page is spooled and then click OK.

Windows XP users: Click Windows Start and then Printers and Faxes. Right-click your printer, click Properties, and then click the Advanced tab. Select Start printing after last page is spooled and then click OK.

Macintosh

Some print jobs are not printing correctly.
Possible Solution:
You may have chosen Binary encoding to print the file. Try using ASCII encoding.

Possible Solution:
Some of the fonts that are included in the file you want to print may not be supported by the printer. Try selecting LaserWriter 7 instead of LaserWriter 8.

I cannot find the Wireless USB Print Server's name in the Chooser.
Possible Solution:
Make sure that AppleTalk is on (the button next to Active is highlighted in the Chooser).

Possible Solution:
Make sure that the printer is on and is in the READY state for a few minutes before attempting to print.

Possible Solution:
Make sure that the printer has not been renamed since the last time it appeared in the Chooser.

Possible Solution:
If the printer is on a network with multiple zones, make sure that the correct zone is selected from the AppleTalk Zones box in the Chooser.

My document did not print to the correct printer.
Possible Solution:
Another Wireless USB Print Server with the same name may have received your print job. Use the PSTOOL to reconfigure your Wireless USB Print Server name and make sure that if you have multiple Wireless USB Print Servers, that they all have unique names.

Possible Solution:
Make sure your application output encode is set to ASCII. If not, change it to ASCII.

My document doesn't use the correct fonts when printing.
Possible Solution:
Try changing your printer driver to LaserWriter 7.

My EPS file doesn't use the correct fonts when printing.
Possible Solution:
This is a problem that occurs in some programs. Try downloading the fonts contained in the EPS file before printing the saved EPS file.

I can't select the "Remaining from:" item in the Print Dialog box.
Possible Solution:
If you have selected the Layout value"2 Up" or "4 Up", you cannot access the "Remaining from" item. You must make some other selections to be able to access this item.

A cover page prints either on the first or the last page of the document.
Possible Solution:
Turn the cover page feature off in the application you are attempting to print from.

Possible Solution:
Insert extra page breaks in your document to avoid the cover page printing on the first or last page of your document.

Possible Solution:
You might be having trouble printing using the Apple LaserWriter 8 driver. Install the Apple LaserWriter 7 driver.

I am having trouble printing with the LaserWriter 8.
Possible Solution:
Your application software may not be compatible with the LaserWriter 8 driver or your system may not meet the requirements of the LaserWriter 8 driver. Use the Apple LaserWriter 7 driver instead.

The colors on my printed output do not match the colors on my computer screen.
Possible Solution:
When the printer receives a color file, it tries to match the printed output color to the screen color. Sometimes the printer cannot match up the colors as closely as wanted. To alleviate this problem, perform the following steps:

  1. Choose Calibrated Color/Grayscale in the Print pop-up menu within the Print Options dialog box. The printer will make adjustments to match the colors.
  2. Check your monitor to make sure all settings (brightness, contrast, etc.) are adjusted correctly.

When I send a print job, I get a PostScript Command error or nothing is printed.
Possible Solution:
Check the communication protocols. The computer, Wireless USB Print Server, and printer must all be configured to the same communication protocol (either Binary or ASCII).
To configure your system:

  1. Choose which protocol you are going to use. You may not have multiple options, so check your printer.
  2. Set your printer to the correct protocol.
  3. Use the computer's Print submenu to configure your computer to use the protocol you have chosen.
  4. Configure the Wireless USB Print Server to use the same protocol as the printer and computer.

Unix

The Wireless USB Print Server is not recognized.
Possible Solution:
Make sure there are no NetWare File Servers that do not have TCP/IP support between the Wireless USB Print Server and the Unix host.

Possible Solution:
Make sure the network cable that you are using to connect the Wireless USB Print Server to the Ethernet network device is functioning properly.

Possible Solution:
Use the Ping command to see if the Wireless USB Print Server is being seen as a valid device on the network.

The IP Address of the Wireless USB Print Server is unknown and the Wireless USB Print Server is being moved to a new network environment.
Possible Solution:
Perform the following steps to reset the Wireless USB Print Server to the factory default settings:

  1. Enter the command

    arp -s yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy 00:c0:49:xx:xx:xx

where yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy is the new IP address that should be assigned to the Wireless USB Print Server and 00:c0:49:xx:xx:xx is the MAC address of the Wireless USB Print Server. The MAC address can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the Wireless USB Print Server.

Note: Windows NT uses "-" instead of ":" in the MAC address.

  2. Enter the commands

    ftp yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy
    ftp>get DEFAULTC
    ftp>quit

This will reset the configuration to the factory default settings. This will also reset the default IP address to 0.0.0.0

  3. You can now configure the Wireless USB Print Server for the new network environment.
