Introduction
Features of the USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS
Home Networking
The USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS provides a complete Home Networking solution.
A broadband connection can be shared among numerous PCs, laptops, PDAs
and network appliances. Peripherals such as a printer can be shared, and
files can be transferred between PCs without using storage media. The
USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS provides support for multi-computer gaming.
Network Security
The USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS maintains network security using a Stateful
Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall.
Virtual Private Networks
The USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS provides a secure communications path over
the Internet to access remote computers or sites using industry standard
encryption, authentication and key management schemes. The USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS
is interoperable with leading VPN technologies such as IPSec and PPTP.
Simplicity
USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS is carefully designed to provide seamless connectivity
with minimal user configuration. Auto-learning DNS enables communication
between LAN computers using host names instead of IP addresses, and DHCP
client/server completely automates the network connection process. A Connection
Wizard is provided to easily create and configure advanced connections.
Support for Universal Plug and Play Enabled Devices
USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS functions as Universal Plug and Play server,
allowing UPnP-enabled computers to dynamically join the network, obtain
IP addresses, configure firewall features and exchange information about
the capabilities of computers in the network.
Control & Provisioning
An intuitive Web-based Management interface offers comprehensive control
over USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS. The USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS can be accessed
remotely by administrators who use the Web-based Management, SNMP, or
telnet protocols.

Before you begin - cable or DSL connection
This User Guide covers most cable and DSL installations that are configured
for Dynamic or Static IP addressing. This guide assumes that you have
an active and properly functioning cable or DSL Internet service.
Note: DSL users, if you use a login
application to access the Internet, you are more than likely using a PPPoE
connection. Refer to the appropriate section in this User Guide for information
on collecting your configuration information. If you use Dial-Up Networking
and a VPN adapter, you are most likely using a PPTP connection. Refer
to the appropriate section of this User Guide for information on collecting
your configuration information. If you are unsure about what type of connection
you are using, contact your ISP.
Note: Your cable or DSL modem must
be connected to your computer via an RJ-45 Ethernet connection. A cable
or DSL modem that is connected to your computer using a USB cable cannot
be connected to the USR8200 Firewall/VPN/NAS.
